A 15-year-old boy in Ohio has been charged after he allegedly murdered the man accused of punching his mom in the face several times.
According to a news release, officers from the Cincinnati Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Pasadena Avenue around 12:30 a.m. local time on Thursday, February 20.
When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, later identified as Levonte Hyde, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Later that day, authorities, including the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit, arrested and charged the teen with murder in relation to the killing.
According to an affidavit obtained by Cleveland 19, the teen’s mother told police that Hyde, 30, punched her in the face several times while driving to a store on February 20.
According to Hamilton County Municipal Court records reviewed by Cleveland 19, a warrant was then issued for Hyde’s arrest on a misdemeanour domestic violence charge, and police requested that a judge grant the woman a temporary protection order against the man.
According to Cleveland 19, court records referred to the woman as the “victim” and stated that she had visible injuries on her face. Hyde was later charged on the same day.
Police spokesman Lt. Jonathan Cunningham and a Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson confirmed to Cleveland 19 that the teen is one of the woman’s sons who accused Hyde of domestic violence.
According to court records, the teen’s mother and Hyde are the parents of two children. The prosecutor’s spokesman confirmed to Cleveland 19 that the teen involved in the alleged shooting is not Hyde’s son, who was also charged with assault in July 2017.
Cleveland 19 reported that the teen appeared in Hamilton County Juvenile Court on Friday, Feb. 21, where it was alleged that he fired 12 rounds at Hyde. It has been determined that the suspect must remain in the detention centre or shelter care until his next hearing on March 3.
According to Tatyana Reintjes, an assistant prosecutor, the teen “had time to find a firearm, open a safe, retrieve that firearm and waited, for the victim to arrive, and ultimately ended up firing 12 shots when the victim did succumb to his injuries,” according to WLWT.
According to the outlet, the incident between Hyde and the teen’s mother took place about 30 minutes before the shooting.
On Sunday, Feb. 23, people contacted the Cincinnati Police Department for more information but did not receive an immediate response.
