Person killed by BART train on tracks close to Hayward station

A BART representative said that someone died after being hit by a train near the Hayward station on Monday night.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. and involved someone who “entered the trackway of their own volition,” according to BART spokesman Jim Allison.

The person has been declared dead, but their name has not been made public. Allison said that they don’t think there was any foul play in the case.

Because of the accident, the station was closed for about two hours. By 11 p.m., normal service had started again, and the station was open again.
